Toronto Community Housing and Meridian Credit Union to distribute over 1,100 backpacks and school supplies to families

Hundreds of children and youth across Toronto Community Housing’s (TCHC) East Region will receive back-to-school supplies thanks to a new partnership with Meridian Credit Union. Meridian and TCHC will distribute more than 1,100 backpacks and thousands of dollars’ worth of school supplies to families beginning this week.

The back-to-school supplies make an important difference for TCHC families as students head back to the classroom next month.

The distribution of back-to-school supplies helps to break down barriers and creates easier pathways to education. Whether its pencils, erasers, crayons, rulers or notebooks, every item Meridian provides helps to make education a little more accessible for TCHC children and youth.

On August 21, TCHC staff from across various departments gathered at Gordonridge Community Centre to stuff backpacks with materials in preparation for distribution. The supplies will be given out at events and individually by frontline staff in over a dozen communities.
