Statement on 40 Gordonridge Place

TORONTO, September 20, 2022—Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) has released this statement about building conditions at 40 Gordonridge Place.

"We thank Toronto Fire Services for their swift action this morning to secure the area and protect the safety of tenants, staff and the public.

"After TCHC staff and a vendor attended the building this afternoon, the hanging piece of concrete was safely removed from the roof. We are in the process of erecting a safety fence around the area where the piece of concrete fell.

"We have no information about what caused the piece of concrete to fall. Once the safety fence is in place, third-party consultants will conduct an investigation, examine the site and recommend what remedial or long-term repairs may be needed.

"We will take all necessary steps to protect the safety of tenants, staff and visitors to the building."

40 Gordonridge Place is an 18-storey high-rise apartment building with 421 rent-geared-to-income (RGI) units. Located near Midland Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East in Scarborough, the building is owned and operated by Toronto Community Housing and managed by TCHC's East Region.
