TCHC announces recipients of the 2024-25 Regent Park Scholarship Program

Fifty thousand dollars was distributed to 15 outstanding students in TCHC’s Regent Park community.

Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) is thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2024-25 Regent Park Scholarship Program. Following a competitive selection process, 15 outstanding students have been awarded scholarships to support their post-secondary education.

Each student receives up to $3,000 towards tuition fees, along with a $500 bursary for books and other school-related expenses. The scholarships, with a total value of $50,000, are funded through TCHC’s partnership with Tridel. The scholarships reflect TCHC’s ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for tenants through its city-building efforts. Tridel is TCHC’s developer partner for Phases 4-5 of the Regent Park revitalization.

“This scholarship program is a testament to the potential within our community and our dedication to fostering social and economic opportunities through our revitalization projects” said Jessica Hawes, Acting Chief Development Officer, TCHC. “We are incredibly proud of this year’s recipients and look forward to witnessing their future achievements.”

On July 24, TCHC hosted a breakfast to celebrate and award the scholarship recipients. Along with recipients’ family and friends, members of the Regent Park Scholarship evaluation committee were in attendance. Kristyn Wong-Tam, Member or Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Toronto Centre, Tridel, and TCHC’s Development team also joined the celebration. Each student was honoured for their academic excellence and leadership in the community — key elements of the application process.

"Thank you so much for this honour. I promise to work hard every day to succeed, making sure I come back and serve all of you. Because that is our purpose: to all serve each other. That’s how we will all become stronger."

"I’ll be starting graduate studies this fall, at the University of Toronto’s Master of Public Health program. My community service is the spark that led me to this point; it gave me a sense of empowerment, an understanding of public issues, and a sense of community with my fellow residents. Community scholarships are important. They help residents achieve their professional goals, while supporting the capacity of an entire community to reach their collective goals."
