Toronto Community Housing statement on fire at 4175 Lawrence Ave East

​This afternoon a fire was reported on the fifth floor of 4175 Lawrence Avenue East, a TCHC high rise located in Scarborough. Toronto Fire Services (TFS) and Toronto Police Services (TPS) responded quickly to put out the fire and provide assistance. We are grateful for their bravery and their efforts to care for our community members.

At this time, the available information indicates that one person has died and multiple others have been transported to hospital for care. We give our sincerest condolences to the family of the victim and hope for a speedy recovery for the injured. Information on affected tenants is not yet available.

TCHC staff have set up a reception center for displaced residents and will be transporting people there with the assistance of the TTC. Community Safety Unit personnel are on-site and working to support the response to the fire.

All questions related to the potential cause of the fire should be directed to Toronto Fire Services, who will be investigating and providing further detail.
