TCHC and Tridel move closer to opening with ‘topping off’ of two new buildings in the Alexandra Park community
Two buildings under construction in Alexandra Park that front Dundas Street West at Denison Avenue were recently ‘topped off’.
'Topping off' is a critical construction milestone when the last slab of the roof is installed. It also marks the moment when work on the exterior and interior of the buildings can begin.
“The ‘topping off’ of one of our buildings is always an important step in the construction process,” said Michael Lam, Director of Development at Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC). “This brings us one big step closer to putting people in their new homes, and that’s always pretty special.”
The two buildings are part of TCHC’s Alexandra Park revitalization with Tridel. Tridel was also TCHC’s developer partner for the recently completed Leslie Nymark community.
The TCHC building’s new address in Alexandra Park will be 130 Augusta Avenue. Tridel’s market condo building will be at 115 Denison Avenue. The TCHC-owned building is 15 storeys tall with 99 affordable units. It will also be home to the Atkinson Housing Co-operative. Six units in Tridel’s condo tower will be available for affordable ownership through a partnership with the City of Toronto’s Housing Secretariat and Habitat for Humanity.
“At Tridel, we’re pleased to partner with TCHC on the revitalization of Alexandra Park and we’re excited to continue working towards the completion of these two buildings,” said Jim Ritchie, President of Tridel. “The latest additions to this thriving community will offer residents an incredible living experience in the heart of downtown Toronto, with exceptional build quality and modern amenities.”
The TCHC building amenities will include shared outdoor landscaped terraces, a large community room and a kitchen. The building will also house a City of Toronto daycare, the Atkinson Co-op Office and retail space.
Beyond building infrastructure, TCHC continues to foster vibrant community engagement in Alexandra Park. The revitalization provides resident-specific programs, including scholarships, job opportunities and skills training.
