Celebrating National AccessAbility Week
May 25 to 31 is National AccessAbility Week (NAAW).
This week celebrates the many contributions and leadership of people with disabilities in Canada. It’s also a chance to recognize the work of allies, organizations, and communities working together to remove accessibility barriers.
This year’s theme is “Breaking barriers together: Paving the way for an inclusive future.” The commitment is to work together to break down barriers and build more inclusive communities.
Meeting the accessibility needs of tenants and staff is important to all of us at Toronto Community Housing (TCHC). Our Accessibility Program covers many areas like engagement, customer service, communications, employment, and more.
Some of the ways we make our communities more accessible include:
- Common space and unit modifications based on need. Tenants can have their homes modified to suit their medical needs at no cost.
- Alternate formats for digital and print communications. Tenants can request communications to be translated into languages other than English or in an accessible digital format.
Tenants can also get involved by advocating for tenants with disabilities at TCHC. The Responsible Personal Accessibility in Toronto Housing (R-PATH) Committee works with TCHC to make recommendations in all areas of accessibility. Learn more about their work and see how to apply.
